  1. Member of a Plains American Indian people,
  2. some 10,000 in number and consisting of three
  3. subtribes: the Blackfoot proper, the Blood,
  4. and the Piegan, who live in Montana, USA, and
  5. Saskatchewan and Alberta, Canada. They were
  6. skilled, horse-riding buffalo hunters until
  7. their territories were settled by Europeans.
  8. Their name derives from their black
  9. moccasins. Their language belongs to the
  10. Algonquian family.
